There's an old saying. Not sure who originally said it but it certainly applies to the EPOS industry: quality will stick in people's heads long after the price is forgotten.
After all, although price is an issue we all face when quoting for business, it's important to make sure you're comparing like for like.
When it to comes to hardware, for example, we invariably recommend a higher specification than standard to optimise the impact of your solution.
For instance, the touchscreen terminals and handhelds we recommend will carry more RAM and antivirus safety devices than similar off-the-shelf models for a faster, safer performance.
We go for a higher spec because we believe that gives our clients the necessary power and the protection they need to run effective operations.
Where appropriate, our hardware have high performance solid state drives installed as opposed to the increasingly vulnerable hard drive with its heat-generating moving parts.
Also, as a matter of course, we'd lock down the standard version of Windows X-PRO so it is used exclusively as a business tool as opposed to a games console for staff or their means of accessing the www when they should be looking after customers.
Many of our competitors just take the terminal out of the box and leave it for the end user to sort out. Imagine going into a restaurant and seeing the staff playing Solitaire or twittering on the touchscreen terminal. Hardly a great advert is it!
Does this approach where quality counts make a difference?
Too right it does.
Our added-value hardware lasts longer and performs far better than standard versions.
They are far more reliable and much less likely to malfunction.
And they prove that saving a couple of quid now is a false economy compared to the long run success of your EPOS solution.
