Three Terminal Hospitality Pricing Example

Ian owns a wine bar with a fine dine restaurant upstairs and wants to action the following problems.

  1. When customers want a bill in the restaurant it takes anything up to 20 minutes to prepare. This leaves customers frustrated and reduced the spend per table over an evening due to the amount of time there were people at a table waiting to leave and not ordering.
  2. The above problem also cause items to be missed off bills as staff are harassed and make mistakes.
  3. Regularly customers query bills as they are expecting them to be incorrect.
  4. He has an extensive specials board that customers utilise a lot. The problem is when one of the specials ran out, this information isn't relayed to the other staff who find themselves constantly going back to customers to amend orders.
  5. The wine bar has problems with customers waiting as the time spent by the staff at the till is too long.
  6. The staff would quite often use a miscellaneous button or ring wrong prices through just to try and hurry things up.

Ian's solution cost in the region of £15.00 per day over 3 years and with the faster table turn around and increased spend per head along with his more efficient bar operation there was a speedy return on his investment.

His three-terminal solution has two working the bar area with all the fastest selling items accessible through "one shot" keys. The transactions "float" between terminals so staff to pick up at the most convenient till speeding transactions up.

The other terminal is in the restaurant and uses the handheld solution.

All items would be entered through the handheld units by the waiting on staff. These would tally as it went and also print directly through to the kitchen and bar areas. This would allow the experienced staff to stay on the "sales floor" and help increase spend per head.

When the customer wants the bill, it can be produced in seconds and will be precise and legible. Ian works out he can turn a table around a least one more time when he is fully booked.

The 'sold-out' feature eliminates the problem with specials running out. As soon as they had been sold then the handhelds would inform the next member of staff who tried to ring the item through and an alternative order could be taken.
